He is among the first African youth climate activist to be featured on Climate Daily Effects from this country. BACKGROUND: Letsatsi Lekhooa is a YALI SA alumni member from Lesotho; his track is Business and cohort 2 online. He is now the YALI Chapter Sustainability Coordinator for 2020/22. He is a sound and determined Mosotho young man, who is very brave and elevated by development and transformation. His inspiration for change in Lesotho has set him to be a noble activist and an icon for empowering youth educationally and spiritually. A learned youth who is a Computer Scientist, Mathematician, business entrepreneur, pacesetter, community developer, and climate change activist. Having acquired all these qualities and knowledge he has been keen on sharing them with different communities and since 2015 he has been a President of Quthing Youth Volunteers working towards Sustainable Development Goals. As a Climate activist, he is assisting his community with how they could cope with climate change’s current situation. He is an Ambassador of Keep Lesotho Clean making our environment clean and healthy. Fortunately, he recently attended the first-ever United Nations Youth Climate Summit 2019 in New York USA representing Lesotho Youth Delegates. He is a country coordinator for Lesotho under UN Climate Change 16th Conference of Youth(COY16).PASSION: Letsatsi is passionate about seeing youth actively involved in making our communities thrive knowing that Africa will be built by Africans. He is an enthusiastic and ambitious social geographer with an interest in how people of various cultures live, how institutions in different settings function, and how both adapt to changes in their environment. His career path focuses on the interplay of climate change, Climate data, sustainable development goals, Mathematical Sciences for Climate, Satellite Remote Sensing, and urbanity with applications to the fields of climate change impacts, environmental equity, individual behavior, modeling, modes of learning, communication, and planning policy and practice in international and intercultural comparisons. PROBLEM: Global climate is projected to continue to change over this century and beyond. The magnitude of climate change beyond the next few decades depends primarily on the amount of heat-trapping gases emitted globally, and how sensitive the Earth’s climate is to those emissions. Droughts in Lesotho and heat waves (periods of abnormally hot weather lasting days to weeks) everywhere are projected to become more intense, and cold waves less intense everywhere. Summer temperatures are projected to continue rising, and a reduction of soil moisture, which exacerbates heat waves, is projected for much of the Sub-Sahara in summer. SOLUTION: The world needs us now more than ever before. It needs our courage, our optimism, and our idealism. In some countries like Lesotho, the youth are facing so many challenges in terms of unemployment that they are not bothered about climate change and pay no attention to it. However, those who are bothered like me should have strategical approaches on how to advocate for Youth on Climate Change.
